Healthy Butler is a FREE program designed to help motivate YOU, Butler County Residents, and get the community up and moving towards a healthier lifestyle. Read more about our organization in the About Us section of this site and continue reading here to learn how to get started.

Set your Goals for Activity.

There are 1,440 minutes in every day all you need to do is schedule 30 minutes for physical activity. Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy and people who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight, delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.

It’s as Simple as Moving.

Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week. Moderate activity examples include walking briskly, gardening, dancing, swimming or yard work – any activity that makes you breathe as hard as you would during a brisk walk. Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level. Vigorous activity including jogging, running, or aerobics – any activity that makes you breathe as hard as you would while running. Both types of activity have benefits, and both count.

The key is to find the right type of exercise for you. If it is fun, you are more likely to stay motivated. You may want to walk with a friend, join a class or plan a group bike ride. If you've been inactive for a while, use a sensible approach, start out slowly, and check with your physician. Learn more.

Knowing your Numbers.

Knowing your numbers can help you build goals, stay motivated, and monitor your progress while making healthy lifestyle choices. Begin by recording your starting weight and your goal weight and we’ll show you your progress. All you have to do is plan your weekly eating, weigh yourself, and record each week (preferably on the same day each week). Learn more.

Use Healthy Butler to Help you Achieve your Goals.

Every week, login to our site and record your activity minutes and progress to date under Your Progress Page. Stay involved and motivated for your set time frame and win prizes along the way (keep reading to find out more)! Every participant sets his or her own goals or you can visit with one of our Butler YMCA fitness experts for a quick and easy assessment to get you started. Whether you participate in moderate or vigorous activity, you earn credit for every minute you’re active.

Example: On Sunday, Tom mowed the grass with a push mower, and it took him 45 minutes. On Monday, he took his daughter on a 30 minute walk. On Wednesday morning, Tom walked Rails to Trails for 1 hour. On Saturday, the family went swimming at the community swimming pool for 30 minutes. Every Monday, Tom logs onto HealthyButler.com and records his activity minutes. Based on our example, Tom logs 165 minutes. For more exercise examples, click here.

Why Should I Participate?

In addition to all of the health benefits of physical activity, everyone who enrolls, stays active, and logs their minutes weekly will be entered in a drawing to receive great incentives. Prizes will be given quarterly and include sports equipment, gift certificates and other great items that will help you stay active and healthy along the way. All participants age 12 and over are eligible to win. To be qualified, you must login to the site weekly and record your activity minutes and progress.
